Contender passed away

At the age of 30 years Contender died in Haselau.

The Calypso II-Ramiro-Ladykiller xx-son out of the breed of Niko Detlef, Dänschendorf was one of the most important sires of the Holsteiner breed. Since 2001 the reserve champion of the approval of 1986 was stationed at the stallion station in Haselau.
Contender leaves 127 approved stallions in Germany and 1.198 registered breeding mares. Especially in the breeding area Oldenburg, where he was located the first three years after his approval, he produced highly qualified offspring like the winner of the Elite Mare Show in Rastede "Riconda" as well as the approved stallions Continue, Caius, Clinton, Calvador and Cashman.

Almost 1700 foals of Contender were born in the Holsteiner breed. He produced for example the the champion stallions of the approval in Neumünster: 1994 Camiros and 2006 Cubito. He sired 53 licensed stallions, among them 12 are still active like for example Campamento, Com Air, Colander, Conteur as well as Contendro I and II. The most famous son of Contender is Contendro I. The 16-year-old was approved 1999 in Neumünster and produced already 71 approved stallions.
75 daughters of Contender have been decorated in Holstein with the state premium, 13 were awarded with the association premium and 448 with the district premium. At the moment 328 Contender mares are active in the breed.

The offspring of Contender produced a lifetime earning of more than 7.7 million euros.
Montender by Contender out of a Burggraaf mare, has won 2005 the individual and team bronze medal at the European Jumping Championships in San Patrignano after winning the induvidual and team bronze medal in Athens at the Olympic Games under his rider Marco Kutscher. Further successful offspring of Contender are for example Checkmate (Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum), three times winner of the German Jumping Derby, Collin (Toni Haßmann), Con Air (Lars Bak Andersen, Otto Becker and Jose Maria Larocca), as well as Controe ridden by Jörg Kreutzmann. Currently, the most successful offspring are Chiara (Ludger Beerbaum), Carlo (Sergio Alvarez Moya) as well as Colore (Hans-Dieter Dreher). All of them are highly successful in international showjumping classes.
